Great post. It IS all in the details. Passpoint / OpenRoaming MAY be a wonderful solution… when it works.
We still need a better way of getting client profiles, and to make it easier for infrastructure owners to configure. I think they added too many ‘optional’ bits trying to kowtow to those folks who want to make MONEY off of OpenRoaming… instead of focusing on the easiest way to get client devices onboarded for a Fast, Free, Frictionless, and Secure access to the Internet.
THAT is, after all, what customers WANT… So we should all work to give it to them as simply as possible.
It would have been great to have OpenRoaming/Passpoint running as conference Wi-Fi at the Ubiquiti World Confernce yesterday… perhaps next time around?
