On of the best Wi-Fi blogs I recommend has not published anything since June 2020.

I still send people there every month.

WifiNigel is Nigel Bowden's site. Nigel is CWNE #135, a UK-based independent wireless LAN consultant, and he spent from 2011 to 2020 writing what amounts to a working consultant's field notebook in public. Screenshot-heavy packet analysis. Python you can run. WLAN Pi walkthroughs that start at "how do I even log in to this thing" and end at client performance probing.

Here is why I trust the archive, and it is not the writing.

Nigel did not just write about WLAN Pi tooling. He built some of it. He created the WLAN Pi profiler, the thing that reads a client's association request and tells you what that client is actually capable of rather than what the datasheet claims. He wrote WLANPiShark, which streams frames off a WLAN Pi straight into Wireshark on your laptop. When the person teaching you frame analysis also wrote the profiler, you read what he wrote.

He also authored WiFi Explorer 3: The Definitive User Guide, for a macOS tool I already point people toward.

Four posts worth your afternoon:

10 Easy Things To Do With a WLAN Pi. The fastest on-ramp to the platform.

The WLAN Pi: How Do I Get In To This Thing? The post every new owner needs on day one.

Wiperf, a wireless client performance probe mode on the WLAN Pi.

My Scripts To Try Out The Mist API. His last post, June 2020, and still a clean starting point.

Treat it as a reference archive rather than a feed. Search it when you hit a specific symptom. Product consoles have moved on since 2020, so read any old screenshot as period material. The technique underneath is the part that does not go stale.

The blog went quiet. Nigel did not. He maintains book companion repos, he is a core voice in the WLAN Pi community, and he has turned up on my Heavy Wireless threads more than once. This is not an abandoned blog. It is a finished reference, left standing by someone who put his energy into building tools and supporting people instead of writing more posts.

Most of what we know in this field lives in people's heads and dies there. Nigel wrote his down and left it online for free.

You have a capture you never got to the bottom of. Which one are you opening his profiler write-up against first?
