Part of doing 802.11/Wi-Fi tuning and troubleshooting requires capturing the 802.11 frames from the air. Here are a couple of options to do this in the field. I've used all of these techniques - my favorite has been using macOS laptop and AirTool 2. There are options that require no other device, those that can work remotely, and those that re-purpose Wi-Fi survey tools to also do packet capture work. The very best solution is the tool you have with you!
